We have been talking a lot in our district about the technology initiatives that we are looking to implement as we open our new high school, and Flipped Learning is one of those initiatives. The flipped classroom is a strategy that inverts traditional teaching methods, delivering instruction online outside of class and moving “homework” into the classroom. With the educational technology we are putting into the hands of our students, we have the opportunity to change our classrooms into an environment where students participate in project and activity based learning where the teacher acts as a learning guide and co-learner in the classroom. The traditional one-size-fits-all model of education results in limited concept engagement and limited academic success. Studies of Flipped Learning have shown dramatic decreases in classroom discipline issues and increased academic success.
